Today Civis primarily works in Colombia. During the last years Civis has also started collaborating on a small scale with youth organizations in other conflict or post-conflict countries, among them, Ecuador and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The overall objective of Civis is to contribute to a Peace culture by supporting and strengthening young people’s actions of nonviolence, and their initiatives to defend Human Rights and build democracy.
Civis supports civil society initiatives in conflict zones and promotes, in particular, marginalised young people’s social and political participation. The principal methodology is to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience in order to strengthen civil society initiatives for peace and civic participation. Through this Civis wishes to contribute with a deepened analysis of the underlying causes of conflict and spread methods and practical tools for peace building among civil society organizations and other actors working for peace, democracy, human rights, conflict resolution, gender and nonviolence, with a global perspective.
The bottom line for all activities carried out in Sweden within the program is Civis work and experiences with the Colombian counterparts. Likewise, the divulgence of information about Civis fieldwork and counterparts aims at supporting the counterparts, by bringing further knowledge to the Swedish public and influencing decision makers in order to bring about necessary development for a peace culture.
